Superintendent Wayne E. Bennett entered into retirement from the New York State Police after nearly 40 years of service on May 5, 2007.
On August 15, 2017, Superintendent Bennett passed away from an illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
Following the events of 9/11, then First Deputy Superintendent Bennett was assigned to New York City to aid in the search and recovery efforts.
Superintendent Bennett is survived by his wife and daughters.
