Troopers Respond to Snowbound Families

Troopers Delivering Goods On Horseback

1945: A harsh winter with heavy snowfall and a shortage of heating fuels made it difficult for many needy families. At the end of January, a blizzard strikes New York causing Governor Dewey to declare a statewide emergency. Troopers respond to help by packing food and other goods on horses and toboggans, making deliveries to snowbound families. Additionally, the Troopers transported the sick to hospitals when no other transportation was able to reach the most isolated rural areas.
