On November 29, 1971, Investigator Thomas Buck, punctured his finger securing a needle as evidence while making an arrest for illegal possession of a hypodermic needle.

In early 1972, Investigator Buck was diagnosed as having developed infectious hepatitis. Investigator Buck experienced intermittent episodes of liver dysfunction and entered into disability retirement on August 1, 1979.

Investigator Buck died at age 36 on March 19, 1981.
