Trooper Steven A. Tyrrell became a Member of the New York State Police on October 3, 1997. Trooper Tyrrell was approved for a World Trade Center Disability Retirement effective September 27, 2023. On February 7, 2024, Trooper Tyrrell died as a result of Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer stemming from his assignment to the World Trade Center site, following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
In response to the events of 9/11, Trooper Tyrrell was assigned to aid with the search and recovery efforts in New York City, as park of the New York State Police detail.
Trooper Tyrrell is survived by his three children.
