Steven A. Nigrelli became Acting Superintendent on October 19, 2022. Acting Superintendent Nigrelli is a 32-year veteran of the New York State Police, and as Acting Superintendent, he commands more than 5,000 troopers, investigators and non-sworn support staff who provide a full range of policing and public safety services to New Yorkers and other law enforcement agencies across the state.

Acting Superintendent Nigrelli holds bachelor's degrees in business studies and economics from the State of New York College at Buffalo.
