Troop E - May 13, 1980
Trooper Robert J. Gaylo, 42, died as a result of an automobile accident on May 13, 1980.
Trooper Gaylo, was on routine patrol on Melrose Road in the town of Owasco, Cayuga County, when he lost control of his vehicle on a rain slick highway, and struck an oncoming vehicle. Trooper Gaylo died at the scene of head and internal injuries.
Trooper Gaylo joined the Division in 1965, and served in Troops C, D and T, before being assigned to the Auburn Station in 1974.
