Troop T - July 26, 1983
On July 26, 1983, Trooper Paul Ashburn, 28, was struck and killed by a truck while conducting a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway, south of the city of Albany.
Trooper Ashburn made a traffic stop and was standing alongside the vehicle when a truck veered from the driving lane and struck him and the stopped vehicle. Trooper Ashburn was killed instantly.
Trooper Ashburn joined the State Police in 1979 and transferred to Troop T in 1981. He was assigned to the Albany Zone Headquarters at the time of his death.
