The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Honda was traveling northwest on State Route 42 and 97 in the Town of Deerpark, NY, while a 2014 Ford was traveling southeast on the same roadway. When for unknown reasons, the operator of the Honda, identified as Patricia A. Desomma, age 76, of Warwick, NY, crossed into the southeast lane of travel and subsequently struck the Ford head-on.
Patricia Desomma and her front-seat passenger, John J. Desomma, age 76, of Warwick, NY, were extricated from the vehicle. John Desomma received life-saving measures at the scene and was transported to Bon Secours Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Patricia Desomma was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford, a 36-year-old female from Sparrowbush, NY, was also transported to Garnet Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

On March 23, 2026, at approximately 1:45 p.m., troopers out of State police Greenville barracks responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision on State Route 42 and 97 in the town of Deerpark that resulted in a fatality. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
