On Saturday, May31, 2025, at approximately 8:10 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a reported structure fire at a multi-family residence. The initial investigation revealed that the upstairs neighbor observed smoke emanating from a pipe behind the kitchen stove. She immediately evacuated the residence with her two children and contacted 911.
Prior to exiting, the neighbor observed her downstairs neighbor, identified as Shane Munn (50), operating a weed trimmer on the property. Moments later, Shane was seen running back into the residence and did not return.
Several local fire departments responded to the scene and initiated search and rescue efforts. Firefighters located Shane deceased in the living room of the downstairs apartment.
Tragically, Mr. Munn’s two children, identified as Ryan H. Munn (17) and Travis A. Munn (12), were found unresponsive in a bedroom. Life-saving efforts were initiated on the scene by members of the Town of Goshen Police Department and EMS. Both children were transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill, where Travis and Ryan succumbed to their injuries.
The preliminary investigation has determined that the cause of the fire was accidental in nature.
On May 31, 2025, at approximately 8:11 p.m., the Town of Goshen Police Department, New York State Police and numerous fire departments and EMS agencies from Orange County responded to a residential structure fire with entrapment located at 876 Pulaski Highway in the town of Goshen.
Fire personnel arrived on scene to find the building completely engulfed in flames. During rescue operations, Shane Munn, age 50 (corrected to 50), was located deceased inside the residence. Additionally, two juvenile males, ages 12 & 17, were located inside the residence and transported to Garnett Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. Both juveniles have since succumbed to their injuries.
This incident is currently under investigation by the SP Monroe Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), with assistance from Orange County Fire Investigation Unit and the Hudson Valley Arson and Explosives Task Force.
