Update: State Police seeking the public's assistance in locating a missing hiker in the town of Newcomb

Update: 

On May 10, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., State Police received a notification that human remains had been discovered on the Mt. Adams Trail in Allen Mountain. State Police, New York State Forest Rangers, and the Essex County Coroner responded to the scene. The remains were collected and transported to Glens Falls Hospital, where an autopsy was performed on May 12, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica.

Dr. Sikirica was able to positively identify the remains as belonging to Leo Dufour, a 23-year-old resident of Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC, Canada.

Leo Dufour, 22 at the time he had been reported missing on November 30, 2024. Various law enforcement agencies and local hikers participated in the search for Dufour; however, the search had to be halted due to unsafe weather conditions on the mountain.

On November 30, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m., State Police members were informed of a missing hiker.  Leo DuFour, age 22, of Vaudreuil, QC, came to the United States to hike the Allen Mountain trailhead in the town of Newcomb on Friday, November 29, 2024.  New York State Forest Rangers started an active investigation regarding the location of DuFour.  New York State Police were informed of the missing hiker and responded to the Command Post.  A multi-agency search is still being conducted to locate DuFour.  

The State Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating Leo DuFour. He is known to have gone hiking on the Allen Mount trailhead wearing a black Arc Teryx Coat, black shell pants, a tan winter hat, a black backpack, and reflective sunglasses. He is approximately 150 lbs, approximately 5’7", and has brown hair.
