Update:

On December 17, 2024, Joe W. Hewett, age 50, of Plattsburgh, NY, was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court.  Hewett was remanded to Clinton County jail without bail.  The next court appearance for Hewett is scheduled for January 7, 2025, in the Town of Plattsburgh Court.

Update:

On today’s date, December 17, 2024, autopsies were performed at Glens Falls Hospital by Forensic Pathologist Doctor Michael Sikirica to determine the cause and manner of death. Subsequent to the autopsies, the two deceased females were identified as Miranda R. Wade, age 42, of Plattsburgh, NY, and Karen A. Lindsay, age 64, of Plattsburgh, NY. Doctor Sikirica determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head for Miranda R. Wade and strangulation for Karen A Lindsay. The manner of death was ruled a homicide for both women. 

The investigation into this incident has resulted in Joe W. Hewett, age 50, of Plattsburgh, NY, being charged with (1 count) of Murder in the 1st degree and (2 counts) of Murder in the 2nd degree. He will be arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court at 6:30 p.m. on December 17, 2024.

This investigation is being conducted by the New York State Police, with assistance from the Clinton County District Attorney, Plattsburgh Police Department, and Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

On December 12, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., New York State Police members were informed of two missing females. During the active investigation into the missing individuals, on December 15, 2024, State Police members were informed of a fire at 2 Birch Street in the town of Plattsburgh, the residence of the two missing.  State Police members responded to the scene and spoke with the New York State Fire Investigator regarding the incident, and it was determined to be suspicious in origin. An active investigation regarding the fire and missing females continued.  

On December 16, 2024, New York State Police members actively searched surrounding areas, leading them to locate human remains. The State Police are executing multiple search warrants and are processing the scenes to gather evidence. 

State Police advise they think this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.
