Update:

On April 3. 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an autopsy was performed at Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Kyla J. Spencer by Forensic Pathologist, Doctor Scott Lapoint.  The cause and manner of death are pending histology and toxicology.

This investigation remains ongoing.  If anyone has information regarding the incident are asked to call the State Police at 518-873-2776.

Update:

On April 2, 2024, State Police members from Troop B and D worked alongside the NY State Forest Rangers in an attempt to locate the missing 18 year old.  State Police members and Forest Rangers conducted a foot search in a wooded area off Jayville in the town of Pitcairn when a Forest Ranger located a deceased female. St. Lawrence County Coroner arrived on the scene and authorized removal of the body. The female was identified as Kyla J. Spencer, age 18, of Watertown, NY. 

An autopsy will be performed at Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Forensic Pathologist, Doctor Scott Lapoint, on April 3, 2024, to determine the cause and manner of death.

This investigation is ongoing, and the State Police continue to ask anyone who has security cameras on Jayville Road or surrounding areas to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity. If anyone has any information regarding this incident are asked to call the State Police at 518-873-2776.

On April 1, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., State Police members were notified that Kyla J. Spencer, age 18, from Watertown, NY, had been missing for several hours from a seasonal camp on Jayville Road in the town of Pitcairn.  On April 2, 2024, at approximately 12:50 a.m., State Police members and Forest Rangers conducted an organized search. 

The investigation is ongoing, and State Police are asking for anyone who has a camp on Jayville Road to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity. If anyone has information regarding this incident is asked to call State Police at 518-873-2776.
