UPDATE June 8, 2026
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle has been identified as Ibra Ndiaye, 28, of Albany, NY. Ndiaye has remained in State Police custody since the collision while at Albany Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
On June 8, 2026, Ndiaye was arraigned during a virtual bedside arraignment at the Albany Medical Center by Albany City Court, Judge Reilly on the charges of:
- Two counts of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, a class “B” felony
- Manslaughter, 2nd, a class “C” felony
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st
- Driving While Intoxicated (previous conviction within 10 years)
- Reckless Driving
Ndiaye was remanded without bail. His custody has been turned over to the Albany County Sheriff’s. Still, he will remain at Albany Medical Center until his medical status warrants release, at which time he will be transferred to the Albany County Correctional Facility.

UPDATE:
The driver who was killed in the crash has been identified as Safwan Mohamed, 20, of Schenectady, NY.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle remains at Albany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

On June 7, 2026, State Police responded to Interstate 90 in Albany for the report of a two-car head-on collision.
On June 7, 2026, at about 1:53 a.m., troopers responded to I-90 westbound in the area of exit 5A for a two-car head-on collision. The investigation determined that a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes struck a westbound vehicle. The driver of the westbound vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
I-90 westbound was closed between exit 6 and 5A for the investigation and collision reconstruction. All lanes were reopened at approximately 6:30 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
