UPDATE: State Police Investigate Collision Involving Pedestrian at Central Square Middle School

UPDATE – Fatal Pedestrian Crash – Town of Hastings, Oswego County

On April 3, 2025, Aunamarie M. Mahnken, age 12, of Central Square, succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle-pedestrian crash that occurred on March 31, 2025.

The New York State Police has identified the driver as Tyler Anthony Hanlon, age 22, of Central Square. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Original Release (March 31, 2025):

On March 31, 2025, at approximately 2:44 p.m., State Police responded to US Route 11 in front of the Central Square Middle School in the town of Hastings for a reported collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 12-year-old female student was crossing US Route 11 from the school when she failed to observe a southbound vehicle and was struck.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse, where she was listed in critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. At this time, no charges are anticipated.
