Update:
On June 12, 2024, after a joint investigation was conducted by the New York State Police, the Tri-County SRT, and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, the two 17-year-old males were arrested and charged with (2) counts each of Menacing 2nd and (1) count each of disorderly conduct, while at SP Ray Brook. They both were released on Family Court Appearance Tickets and turned over to their parents.

Update:
Subsequent to a multi-agency law enforcement search, the Tri-County SRT located the two suspects and brought them into custody. An investigation determined a 17-year-old male from Jay, NY, and a 17-year-old male from Keeseville, NY, were in the area of Sawmill Road in the town of Jay when they were in possession of airsoft guns and menaced a motorist on the roadway.
This is an ongoing investigation, pending consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.

On June 10, 2024, at approximately 5:23 p.m., Troopers were contacted regarding two suspicious males walking on the road, carrying long guns. At approximately 6:29 p.m., Troopers responded to Sawmill Road in the town of Jay, Essex County, for an alleged shooting at a vehicle. The suspects fled into a nearby wooded area. State Police have set a perimeter around the surrounding area. State Police drone operators, K9s, SORT, and Tri-County SRT actively search the areas.
This incident is not considered an active shooter situation. These suspects would possibly be in possession of weapons, do not approach them, if you have information regarding this incident please contact the New York State Police at 518-873-2750.
