Update: NYS Thruway Exit 27 ramp closed for crash cleanup

State Police Thruway are investigating a roll-over tractor-trailer crash that occurred June 27, 2024, at 5:25 p.m., at the Exit 27 Ramp from the NYS Thruway (I-90) in Amsterdam, NY.

A 2024 International Harvester, operated by Giancarlo Alonzo Rivera, age 38 from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida was traveling southbound on State Route 30 when he lost control due to unsafe speed and rolled onto its side at the intersection entrance to Exit 27 NYS Thruway (I-90).

The ramp to the Thruway was closed for several hours due to a small amount of organic peroxide spill from the trailer. Hazmat crews took immediate action to contain the small spill by using sand barriers before it became a hazard to the public or the environment. All the hazards that were contained were mitigated and safely removed from the scene by the crews.  At no time was the public at risk.

The accident scene has been cleared and the ramp is back open.

TRAFFIC ALERT: The NYS Thruway westbound Exit 27 ramp in the city of Amsterdam remains closed while cleanup continues from a rolled over tractor-trailer that was carrying hydrogen peroxide.
