UPDATE: New York State Police Investigate a homicide in Warren

Update: On October 20, 2024, at about 8:00 a.m., Troopers assigned to SP Herkimer (Troop D) and SP Richfield Springs (Troop C) responded to a report of a shooting at 797 Hicks Rd in the Town of Warren, Herkimer County.  

On scene, Troopers detained Nikolai S. Tazin, age 23, from New City, NY, who based on witness accounts was suspected of using a shotgun to intentionally cause the death of his Uncle, Andrey M. Tarasenko, age 50, from Congers, NY, by shooting him as he tried fleeing from the property in his vehicle.  Tarasenko was located and pronounced deceased at the scene inside his vehicle.  

While initially interviewing Tazin, he complained of injury sustained during a physical altercation that occurred before the shooting and was later transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY, for a medical evaluation.  He was admitted for observation and released on today’s date.  

Nikolai Tazin was transported to SP Herkimer where he was charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (class “A” felony), and is scheduled to be arraigned this evening.  

Search warrants were obtained, and members of the Troop D Forensic Identification Unit processed the scene and located the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.  

There is no danger to the public as this was an isolated event.
