On July 4, 2025, at 11:46 P.M., Troopers out of SP Buffalo responded to the I-190 south bound in the town of Grand Island for a two-vehicle collision. Investigation determined that a 2007 Toyota Camry struck the rear end of a 2025 Lexus SUV slowing in traffic in the left lane. The operator of the Toyota, Tamim A. Akbari, 19 sustained fatal injuries and was deceased on scene. Both vehicles had multiple passengers that were treated for serious and minor injuries including a child. Akbari was transported to Erie County Medical Center for an autopsy.
