Two arrested following NYSP investigation into SUNY Cortland Daycare Center

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Homer has arrested two individuals following an investigation into allegations of child abuse at the SUNY Cortland Daycare Center.

The investigation was conducted in coordination with the SUNY Cortland Police Department, who previously arrested and charged four employees.

On August 31, 2026, New York State Police arrested and charged Christopher Chapman, 29, of Homer, with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor.

The investigation determined that while employed at the SUNY Cortland Daycare Center, Chapman engaged in conduct involving a child that placed the child’s physical, mental and moral well-being at risk.

On September 8, 2026, New York State Police arrested Jennifer Eckert-Dennison, 54, of Lisle, with Failure to Report Child Abuse, a misdemeanor under the New York State Social Services Law.

The investigation determined that while employed by the SUNY Cortland Human Resources Department, Eckerson-Dennison failed to report suspected child abuse occurring at the Cortland Daycare Center. As a mandated reporter, Eckert-Dennison was required to report allegations to appropriate authorities, which included the New York State Child Abuse Hotline, the Office of Children Family Services, Child Protective Services or any Law Enforcement Agency.

Both Chapman and Eckert-Dennison were issued appearance tickets to the Cortland City Court on September 14, 2026.
