On April 15, 2026, at approximately 12:11 a.m., members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit observed a 2023 Honda traveling northbound on Interstate 87 in the Town of Plattekill in violation of multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Laws.
Troopers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver and sole occupant as Sherod Wiggins, age 47, of Catskill, New York. During the investigation, K-9 Kell was deployed and alerted positively to the odor of narcotics.
While conducting a search of the vehicle, Wiggins became non-compliant and attempted to flee back into his vehicle. Troopers attempted to take Wiggins into custody; however, he became combative. After a brief struggle, troopers were able to safely place him under arrest.
A search of Wiggins’ person revealed no contraband. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 352 grams of cocaine contained in a clear plastic bag.
Wiggins was transported to State Police Highland, where he was processed without incident.
Wiggins was charged with the following offenses:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree, Narcotic Drug, 8 ounces or more, a class A-I felony
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, Intent to Sell, a class B felony
- Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, a class A misdemeanor
- Resisting Arrest, a class A misdemeanor
- Multiple Uniform Traffic Tickets
Wiggins was remanded to the custody of the Ulster County Jail pending centralized arraignment.
