Traffic Stop on Taconic Parkway Results in Felony DWI Arrest Involving Child Passenger

On Friday, July 24, 2025, at approximately 10:03 p.m., a Trooper assigned to the Hawthorne barracks (SP Hawthorne) conducted a traffic stop on a Volvo traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Mount Pleasant for multiple violations of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
 

During the stop, the operator of the vehicle, identified as Justin V. Ebersole, 43, of Brooklyn, NY, exhibited signs of intoxication. Ebersole was administered standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed. Further investigation revealed that a 2-year-old child was present in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
 

Ebersole was taken into custody and transported to SP Hawthorne for processing, where he provided a breath sample with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.16%. The child was safely released to a sober third party.
 

As a result of the investigation, Justin V. Ebersole was charged with:
•    Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law) – Class E Felony
•    Driving While Intoxicated – Unclassified Misdemeanor
•    Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations
 

Ebersole was issued traffic tickets and released. He is scheduled to appear before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on August 14, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.
