A town of Wallkill man was arrested following a physical altercation with a Trooper on Interstate 84

On February 1, 2024, at approximately 6:37 a.m. a Trooper from the Middletown barracks responded to Interstate 84 westbound in the town of Wawayanda for a report of a male walking on the interstate. The Trooper located the male and attempted to offer assistance and identify who he was. The individual was identified as Jahri Evans, age 24 from the town of Wallkill. He initially gave the Trooper a fake name and continued to walk away from the Trooper. When the Trooper attempted to stop him, Evans began to resist and fight the Trooper. During the struggle, Evans attempted to gain control of the Trooper’s gun from his holster. The Trooper eventually gained control with the assistance of a retired New York State Police Investigator who drove up on the altercation and assisted with taking Evans into custody.

Jahri Evans was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2^nd degree, and Robbery 3^rd degree, both felonies. He was additionally charged with the misdemeanors False Impersonation, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction of Governmental Administration. Evans was out on bail for a previous incident last month. He was remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond/$300,000 secured bond.
