UPDATE
The New York State Police continue to ask for the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle and suspect involved in the shooting of a State Trooper. If anyone observed a black Dodge Charger stopped on the left shoulder of the Southern State Parkway in the area of exit 17 Westbound, on October 30, 2024 in the time frame of 11:00 pm – 11:45 pm., please call the New York State Police at 631-756-3300. The vehicle was last observed fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed westbound on the Southern State Parkway.
On October 30, 2024, at about 11:45 p.m., a shooting occurred on the Southern State Parkway westbound in the area of Exit 17, West Hempstead Nassau County, NY between a New York State Trooper and suspect who fled the scene. The Trooper was wounded and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital and the investigation is ongoing. Southern State Parkway is closed in the area of exit 18 Westbound at this time.
The suspect, believed to be a dark skinned male, fled the scene in a black sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, with New Jersey Temporary Tag NJ 997636T. The vehicle is further described as having custom matte gray dual exhaust tips.
This is an ongoing investigation and the New York State Police is asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to call at 631-756-3300.
