The New York State Police will step up efforts to combat speeding and impaired driving during Columbus Day Weekend. The Columbus Day Speed and Impaired Driving Enforcement Initiative aims to reduce the number of incidents caused by dangerous driving behaviors. Speed and impaired driving continue to be the leading cause of fatalities on highways and account for approximately one-third of all fatal crashes. We would like everyone to enjoy a safe holiday weekend and make the right choice.
These incidents are 100% preventable. Obey the speed limit, designate a sober driver, or plan for a ride share to get home safely. Wear your seatbelt and do not drive distracted. Our message will not change, obey the law.
