On June 9, 2025, at 7:18 p.m., State Police responded to Interstate 81 southbound by the Central Square exit in Oswego County for a reported vehicle fire.
Investigation reveals that Yannick Pearson, age 50, from Canada was operating a 2007 Peaterbilt tractor trailer southbound on I-81 when the tires began to smoke. Pearson pulls onto the shoulder of the roadway and safely exits the vehicle before it catches on fire.
Central Square and Brewerton Fire Departments respond and extinguished the fire.
Both southbound lanes of I-81 were closed for a brief time but have since reopened.
