State Police, Otsego County District Attorney's Office arrest Otsego County Sheriff's Office lieutenant following joint investigation

On Friday, May 29, 2026, the New York State Police arrested Lieutenant Thomas Fellrath of the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges following an investigation by the NYSP Special Investigations Unit, the Troop C Community Stabilization Unit, and the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office. 

Fellrath, age 35, of Hartwick, NY, is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree, a class C felony, Defrauding the Government, a class E felony, and Official Misconduct, a class A misdemeanor.  

Fellrath is accused of possessing 10 grams of cocaine during a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway in Herkimer County. At the time of his arrest, Fellrath was on-duty and driving an unmarked Otsego County Sheriff’s Office vehicle outside of Otsego County. 

The case is being prosecuted by the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, under Acting District Attorney Christopher J. Di Donna and the Herkimer County District Attorney's Office, under District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter.
