On July 17, 2024, at about 4:47 p.m., State Police responded to CSX railroad tracks near Newport Road and Warners Road in the town of Van Buren for a report of a male that was injured after being struck by a passing train.
The victim, Matthew R. Jones, age 48, from Weedsport, who was reported missing from the Auburn area earlier in the day, was transported to Upstate University where he succumbed to his injuries.
There does not appear to be any signs of foul play. The investigation is continuing.
