On May 5, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., New York State Police in Hawthorne were dispatched to the area of mile marker 10.4 southbound on the Sprain Brook Parkway, in the town of Mount Pleasant, for a report of a two-car motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle fire.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2023 Toyota, operated by a 31-year-old male from East Fishkill, New York, was traveling southbound in the left lane when it was sideswiped by a 2025 Honda traveling in the center lane. After the collision, the Honda left the roadway, entered the center grass median, and struck a support pillar of the Grasslands Road overpass before becoming engulfed in flames.
the operator of the Toyota was not injured and was released. The identity of the Honda operator is being withheld pending autopsy.
This investigation remains ongoing.
