On March 16, 2024, at approximately 2:15 a.m., New York State Police at Homer were dispatched by Cortland County 911 to check the welfare of a male at 162 Tim Hill Road in Marathon.
Upon arrival, the Troopers determined that the 54-year-old male was suffering a mental health crisis and was in possession of a gun. While the Troopers were making contact with the man, he pointed the gun toward the Troopers. The man was shot by a Trooper and was immediately rendered medical care. No one else was injured.
The male was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
New York State Police were assisted by the Cortland County Sheriff's Department and Marathon Ambulance.
