press release

On June 20, 2024, at approximately 3:24 p.m., State Police members responded to Interstate 87, northbound lane, in the town of North Hudson, Essex County, for a personal injury accident involving a Troop car.  An investigation determined a female Trooper was traveling north on Interstate 87 in marked patrol vehicle 3B85 during extremely heavy rain.  The female Trooper was traveling in the passing lane when she started to hydroplane near an uninvolved vehicle.  She steered her marked patrol car to the left to avoid a collision with another vehicle, resulting in her vehicle exiting the roadway onto the west shoulder.  The vehicle struck an earth embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn and come to rest upside down against a tree.

State Police members arrived on the scene and got the female Trooper out of the vehicle to render aid.  The female Trooper was transported to Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY, for a complaint of head and back pain.  The female Trooper was medically evaluated, and she was later released with non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police members of CRU (Collision Reconstruction Unit) responded to the scene to investigate, causing the half of the northbound lane to be shut down for hours.

State Police were assisted by Essex County Sheriff's Department, Schroon Lake EMS, Schroon Lake Volunteer Fire Department, North Hudson Volunteer Fire Department, and New York State Department of Transportation
