State Police investigate pedestrian fatally struck on Thruway in Bethlehem

On June 30, 2024, State Police of Albany Thruway responded to I-87 (Thruway) in Bethlehem, NY, for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. 

On June 30, 2024, at about 1:59 a.m. Troopers responded to I-87 southbound (Thruway), south of exit 23 in Bethlehem, NY.  The investigation has determined James R. Gibson Jr., 36, of West Coxsackie, was walking in the right lane of travel when a southbound vehicle struck him.  The vehicle immediately stopped and contacted emergency services.  Gibson Jr. succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The right lane of I-87 was closed for approximately five and a half hours for the investigation and collision reconstruction. 

The investigation is ongoing at this time, and the driver of the vehicle has been entirely cooperative.
