On August 4, 2026, at approximately 6:20 a.m., State Police responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 890 westbound near the Exit 6 off-ramp in the city of Schenectady.
The preliminary investigation determined that Miguel Alejandro Mendoza Canarte, 29, from Shandaken, NY was operating a 2022 Nissan Altima westbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway and struck an earth embankment and a support pole for an overhead sign.
Canarte, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing.
