State Police investigate a drowning in the town of Schroon

On July 10, 2025, at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the New York State Police responded to reports of a possible drowning at a private beach near Cornell Street in the town of Schroon. An investigation revealed that Tyler Shoemaker, a 28-year-old resident of Cobleskill, NY, had gone underwater and never resurfaced. Bystanders attempted life-saving measures until rescue personnel and law enforcement arrived. EMTs continued these life-saving efforts, but unfortunately, Shoemaker was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Essex County Coroner.

This investigation is ongoing.

New York State Police were assisted by Essex County Emergency Services and Schroon Lake  Fire and EMS.
