State Police arrested a Poughkeepsie man on drug charges following a pursuit.

On June 11, 2024, at approximately 12:14 p.m., members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) attempted to stop a 2017 Honda Civic traveling south on Route 9W in the town of Lloyd, the operator of the vehicle, later identified as Christopher Melvin, age 33, from Poughkeepsie, failed to stop. Troopers pursued the vehicle for approximately 13 miles before the pursuit was terminated by State Police.

The vehicle collided with a Town of Marlborough Police vehicle on 9W in the town of Newburgh, causing the Civic to become inoperable. Melvin opened the door of the vehicle to flee on foot, in doing so he damaged a Town of Newburgh Police vehicle. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Melvin was found to be in possession of fentanyl, amphetamines, and crack-cocaine.

Christopher Melvin was arrested with the following charges:

Tampering With Physical Evidence- felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree – felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree- Intent to Sale – felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance- 3rd degree previous conviction – felony

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd degree – felony

Obstructing Governmental Administration – misdemeanor

Resisting Arrest- misdemeanor

Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree- misdemeanor

Mr. Melvin was arraigned in the Town of Plattekill Court and then remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $100,000 cash bail, $200,000 bond, $400,000 partial bond.
