State Police arrest a Winthrop male stemming burglary complaints

On August 29, 2026, New York State Police arrested Jon L. Larue, age 35, of Winthrop, following an investigation into two separate burglary complaints in the town of Brasher.

At approximately 8:02 p.m., troopers responded to County Route 53 in the town of Brasher for a reported burglary. The investigation determined an individual entered a residence’s porch and stole a generator. The individual then entered an attached garage and stole several miscellaneous items.

While troopers were investigating the incident on County Route 53, they received a report of suspicious activity at a residence on State Route 420 in the town of Brasher. Troopers responded and determined an individual had entered a garage without permission and stole property from inside.

During the investigation, troopers located a 1996 Saturn that had been reported stolen from the village of Massena. The vehicle was occupied by Larue, who was subsequently identified as the suspect in both burglary investigations.

Through further investigation, troopers determined Larue was responsible for the incidents on County Route 53 and State Route 420.

Larue was charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief, two counts of Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree, two counts of Petit Larceny, and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Larue was also issued a vehicle and traffic ticket.

The Massena Police Department was notified that the stolen vehicle had been recovered and that Larue was in possession of it.

Larue was processed at SP Massena and arraigned in the Village of Massena Court. He was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.
