The New York State Police in Lee report the arrest of two individuals following an incident involving damage to a marked patrol vehicle and a subsequent pursuit in the Village of Camden, Oneida County.
On April 17, 2026, at approximately 10:34 p.m., a State Trooper was traveling southbound on State Route 13 when a northbound vehicle, a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox, passed by. As the vehicle passed, a passenger threw a full aluminum beverage can from the rear driver-side window, striking the hood of the marked patrol vehicle and causing damage.
The Trooper activated emergency lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle. The operator failed to comply and fled, traveling at high speeds through the Village of Camden, including approximately 75 mph in a 40-mph zone and 65 mph in a 30 mph zone. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop on Preston Street, where all occupants were detained without further incident.
Following an investigation, the operator, an 18-year-old female from Rome, NY, and an 18-year-old male passenger from Taberg, NY, were identified. The passenger was determined to be responsible for throwing the can.
The 18-year-old female was charged with:
• Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
• Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
• Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor)
• Additional Vehicle and Traffic Law violations
The 18-year-old male was charged with:
• Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree (Class E Felony)
• Unlawful Possession of Alcohol Under 21 (Violation)
• Littering on a Highway (Violation)
Both individuals were processed and released on appearance tickets. They are scheduled to appear in the Town of Camden Court on May 13, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
Several additional occupants in the vehicle, including juveniles, were interviewed and released to guardians.
The investigation determined that the damage to the patrol vehicle exceeded $250. No injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
