State Police arrest Schenectady man for felony drug possession following a Schenectady traffic stop

On February 22, 2024, State Police of Princetown arrested Ricky G. Rickson, 53, of Schenectady, NY, for:

  • two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree
  • Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree
  • Manufacturing Drug Related Paraphernalia 
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree
  • four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree
  • other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations

On February 22, 2024, at about 4:55 p.m., Troopers stopped a vehicle on State Street in Schenectady, NY, for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. The driver was identified as Rickson, and the investigation determined he did not have a valid driver's license.  Rickson attempted to flee on foot during the traffic stop and was quickly taken into custody with the assistance of the Schenectady Police Department. Further investigation discovered felony-weight narcotics, multiple controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. Also located in the vehicle was a large concrete figurine that had been reported stolen from outside a Schenectady, NY, home on February 19, 2024.   

Rickson was transported to SP Princetown for processing.  He was then transported to the Schenectady County Correctional Facility to await arraignment. The stolen property was seized and will be returned to the owner.
