State Police arrest Schaghticoke man following a dispute with a knife

On September 17, 2024, State Police of Brunswick arrested Edward R. Charette, 64, of Schaghticoke, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, Menacing in the second degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the second degree.

On September 17, 2024, at about 3:34 p.m., Troopers responded to a home in Schaghticoke, NY, for the reports of a dispute with a knife. The investigation determined during a verbal argument, Charette retrieved a kitchen knife and threatened the victim with it. Charette fled the location on foot before law enforcement's arrival, and the victim was located uninjured.

Charette was later located in a wooded area off Elmore Street in Schaghticoke, where he was taken into custody.  He was transported to SP Brunswick for processing and then arraigned at the Schaghticoke Town Court, which remanded him to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
