State Police Arrest Ogdensburg Man on Aggravated Family Offense

On December 31, 2025, New York State Police arrested Zachary H. Smith, age 36, of Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, charging him with Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, an aggravated family offense.

The charges stem from an incident reported on December 24, 2025, at approximately 11:44 p.m., when troopers received a complaint regarding a violation of an order of protection. An investigation determined Smith violated a stay-away order by contacting the protected party, being present at locations where the victim was known to be, and making threatening remarks.

Following a thorough investigation, an active search for Smith was conducted. On December 31, 2025, troopers patrolled the area of Loafers Bluff Drive in an attempt to locate him. Smith fled the area on foot. The New York State Police K9 unit was contacted. K9 Falb, a bloodhound, and her State Police handler responded and located Smith approximately 50 yards from the residence, hiding in a wooded area.

New York State Police have released body-worn camera video capturing the moment K9 Falb located Smith and troopers took him into custody.

Smith was transported to SP Gouverneur for processing. He was arraigned in the Town of Rossie Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail.
