On June 29, 2025, State Police of Latham arrested Paul D. Byron, 43 of New Scotland, NY for attempted Assault in the first degree, Criminal Mischief in the second degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree, and Menacing in the second degree.
On June 28, 2025, at about 11:48 p.m. Troopers responded to the reports of an altercation with a food delivery driver. The investigation determined that the victim who was attempting to deliver food arrived at a home in New Scotland, NY. Byron reportedly exited the home armed with a hatchet and confronted the food delivery driver who was still in their vehicle, attempting to explain why they were at the location. After being threatened by Byron while he held the weapon the victim realized they were at the wrong residence and started to drive away at which point Byron used the hatchet to strike the victim’s vehicle multiple times causing damage. The victim was not injured during the incident and contacted law enforcement once they were in a safe location.
Byron was located at the home where the incident occurred and was taken into custody. He was transported to SP New Scotland for processing. Byron was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the New Scotland Town Court on July 3, 2025, and released.
