On September 7, 2025, State Police assigned to Troop T arrested Jose Vargas, 39, of New Jersey, for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child (Leandra’s Law), Speeding, and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
At approximately 2:21 p.m., State Police observed a 2025 Mazda CX-9 speeding northbound on Interstate 87 and initiated a traffic stop in the Village of Ardsley. The Trooper observed several indicators of impairment, including slurred speech, diminished reflexes, and the odor of alcohol. A minor was located in the rear of the vehicle.
Vargas was taken into custody for Aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law) and transported to the State Police barracks in Tarrytown for processing. He provided a breath sample with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.15 percent.
He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Ardsley Court on September 29, 2025.
