State Police arrest Johnsonville man for Burglary
Press Release

On December 16, 2023, State Police of Brunswick arrested John H. Rifenburgh, 38, of Johnsonville, NY, for Burglary in the third degree, Grand Larceny in the third degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.

On December 16, 2023, at about 8:21 a.m. Troopers responded to a home in Schaghticoke, NY, for a suspicious person complaint. The investigation determined that Rifenburgh reportedly arrived at the location and requested to use the home’s bathroom. The homeowner, who did not know Rifenburgh, denied him entry. He was also witnessed looking into neighboring vehicles.  Rifenburgh then attempted to leave on a 2003 Honda All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), but the property owner prevented him from starting the ATV until law enforcement arrived. The investigation discovered the ATV did not belong to Rifenburgh and determined that it had been reportedly stolen from a nearby garage the same day. While being taken into custody, Rifenburgh was found to possess a controlled substance.

Rifenburgh was arrested and transported to SP Brunswick for processing. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Schaghticoke Town Court on January 8, 2023, and released.
