On November 14, 2024, State Police of Clifton Park, in partnership with the Waterford Police Department, U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, and Albany Police Department, arrested Thomas L. Bishop, 37, of Cohoes, NY, on a warrant for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree, seven counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree and five counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification in the third degree.
On July 27, 2023, State Police were investigating the reports of a fraudulent check organized crime operation. During the investigation, it was discovered that the Waterford Police Department had arrested Bishop on July 26, 2024, for an unrelated crime during a traffic stop. The Police Officer discovered multiple identifying documents, checks, check-making materials, and other items within his vehicle during their investigation, which were seized. Further investigation determined the checks and other items were stolen. Based on the investigation, Bishop allegedly intercepted mail parcels and stole other items with information, which he then allegedly utilized to create fraudulent checks.
Bishop was located and arrested by the Albany Police Department. He was transported to SP Clifton Park for processing and then arraigned at the Waterford Town Court, where he was released on his own recognizance. Bishop was then turned over to the Waterford Police Department due to an unrelated open warrant with their agency.
