State Police arrest Amsterdam man following Sexual Assault investigation.

On January 31, 2026, State Police arrested Melvin L. Gonzalez, 28, of Amsterdam, NY, for:

• Three counts of Forcible Touching, a class “A” misdemeanor
• Two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class “A” misdemeanor
• Two counts of Public Lewdness, a class “B” misdemeanor

On August 12, 2025, Troopers received the report of a past sexual assault. The investigation determined that in July 2025, Gonzalez reportedly forcibly touched the intimate parts of multiple juveniles who were known to him while in the town of Day. In addition, Gonzalez allegedly exposed his intimate parts to the juveniles while in a public location.

Gonzalez surrendered himself to SP Fonda, where he was arrested and processed. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Day Town Court on February 11, 2026, and released.
