On April 1, 2025, at approximately 8:45 p.m., troopers from State Police Greenville responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Dolson Avenue and County Route 78 in the city of Middletown.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Mazda, operated by Nancy A. Zitzmann, age 64, of Middletown, NY, was traveling north on Dolson Avenue with a green light. The pedestrian identified as a 31-year-old male from Wurtsboro, NY, was walking east across the crosswalk at Dolson Avenue and County Route 78. Zitzmann failed to yield the right of way and struck the pedestrian head-on. Zitzmann remained at the scene and called for assistance.
First responders arrived on scene and performed life-saving measures on the victim. He was subsequently transported to Garnet Health Medical Center and later transferred by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.
The 31-year-old male remains in critical condition.
