State Police Announce the Line of Duty Death of Trooper Mark A. Ondus

It is with deep sadness that Superintendent Steven G. James announces the line of duty death of retired Trooper Mark A. Ondus, at the age of 56.  On Thursday, October 9, 2025, Trooper Ondus passed away from an illness stemming from his assignment in and around the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

Trooper Ondus retired from the New York State Police on Januray 20, 2021, after 26 years of dedicated service.  He was last assigned to Troop T– SP Dunkirk.

Trooper Ondus is survived by his wife Tammy, his sons, Charles, Sebastian, Nikolas and his daughter Tauni.
