Shots Fired Incident at Irondequoit Beach State Park Leads to Arrest

On July 13, 2025, at approximately 3:53 a.m., the New York State Police and the Irondequoit Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at Irondequoit Beach State Park, 4999 Culver Road, in the Town of Irondequoit.

Upon arrival, a 9mm shell casing and evidence of a gunshot impact were located near the park’s restroom building. Witnesses reported a group altercation followed by two gunshots. A vehicle seen leaving the area without headlights was stopped nearby, and three individuals were detained.

During the investigation, a loaded, unregistered 9mm handgun was located in the vehicle and secured by police.

All three occupants of the vehicle were transported to SP Rochester for questioning. One individual, identified as Dontrell Dontrey Hughes, age 22, of Rochester, NY, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Two Counts of Criminal Possession Of A Weapon 2nd: Loaded Firearm (C Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of Weapon 3rd- Ammunition Feeding Device (D Felony)
  • Criminal Possession Of A Weapon 4th- Possess Ghost Gun (A Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Endangerment-1st (D Felony)

Hughes was processed without incident and transported to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment.

The investigation is ongoing.
