Shooting in Pleasant Valley

PRESS RELEASE

On October 5, 2024, the New York State Police with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Rawls Road in the town of Pleasant Valley.  On arrival responding officers located one victim suffering from a stab wound and another the victim of gunfire.

Troopers and Deputies secured the scene and began life-saving-techniques for both victims.  Empress Emergency Medical Services and Pleasant Valley Fire Department Emergency Medical Technicians arrived on scene, took control of medical care, and transported both victims to local area hospitals. 

Anthony G. Cuozzo, age 20, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Vassar Hospital.

Initial investigation determined during a dispute Cuozzo stabbed a 53-year-old male once in the chest.  The stabbed victim then shot Cuozzo.

Following surgery, the 53-year-old male stab wound victim checked himself out of the hospital and returned to the residence.  A second dispute ensued in which the 53-year-old male was struck with a blunt object causing non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation remains ongoing.  There is no threat to the public at this time.
