Oversized Load Escort Scheduled from Massena to Malone on February 12

Massena, NY – On Thursday, February 12, 2026, the New York State Police, in coordination with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), will conduct a scheduled escort of oversized electrical transformers from Massena to Malone in Franklin County.

The transformers measure approximately 16 feet in height and weigh approximately 615,000 pounds. Due to the size and weight of the load, the convoy will travel at a maximum speed of approximately 8 miles per hour.

The escort is scheduled to depart the Massena railyard at approximately 9:00 a.m. The planned route is as follows:

  • North on State Highway 420
  • Left onto State Highway 37
  • Continuing to State Route 56
  • Left onto State Route 56 through the Village of Potsdam
  • Left onto State Route 11B
  • Continuing to Malone, where the escort will conclude

Motorists should expect traffic delays along the route during the morning and early afternoon hours. Drivers are encouraged to plan accordingly, allow for additional travel time, and seek alternate routes when possible.
