On October 20, 2023, at approximately 9:35 P.M., New York State Police were dispatched to a fatal crash in the 2500-block of Elmira Road (State Route 13) in the town of Newfield.
A preliminary investigation reveals that a male operator of a motorcycle lost control on wet roads, laying the bike down. He is identified as Patrick Robinson, age 42 of Ithaca, NY.
Passerby, Mathew J. Poplawski, age 34 of Schenectady, NY stopped to assist the operator of the motorcycle when a vehicle stuck both men.
Both were pronounced deceased on scene.
The operator of the vehicle, a 57-year-old man of Illinois is cooperating with New York State Police. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The investigation is on-going.
